Yesterday, I posted a bit about the direction I want this blog to head in. I also mentioned that I consider this blog sort of a personal portfolio. It is also the focus of my online presence.

And if you don’t think that every writer needs some kind of online presence, well, sit down and let me tell you a little story. Just yesterday afternoon, when I’d actually left my computer and was attempting to wrap Hanukkah presents, my phone rang. I didn’t recognize the phone number — heck, I didn’t even recognize the area code.

It was a gentleman who was looking for writers for a project. During the conversation, he said 6 key words that make up the moral of my little story: “I was looking at your website…” I would never have been considered for this project without a website.

I don’t need advertising revenue to pay for my website’s expenses. I only need it to land a few projects a year and it will more than pay for itself. The same is true for any writer. Considering the low expense of maintaining websites (free in some cases), there is absolutely no reason not to develop one.
