Your future as a freelancer

I’ve been thinking a lot about where I want to take my freelancing. I know I want to continue to find new opportunities, and hopefully make more money. But how do I get there? How do I compete with all you other freelance writers?

It’s a hard question, and I can’t claim to even begin to know the answer.

Personally, I think the best path for myself is a little more education. I want to complete a master’s degree, in part because I’d like to teach writing and other publication skills in the future. I feel that an MA is the sort of credential that would help me in the long run.

I know plenty of freelance writers who feel otherwise, though. There are plenty of amazing writers out there without a college degree. And they have their own plans for expanding their businesses: some are using blogging, some are building new niches of internet writing.

For each writer, the future looks a little different. How do you plan to increase your success in the long run?
