Today’s count is 4,326 as of 8:30 p.m., hence no earlier posts. This project will continue tomorrow, so don’t be surprised if I don’t get a post up early.
This is an opportunity, however, to talk about big projects in brief. By tomorrow at midnight, I will have written about 16,000 words over the course of four days. I’ll also have made 3/4 of my absolutely bare minimum monthly income and just a bit under 1/3 of my comfort zone monthly income.
I’m okay with crazy huge projects that require a massive commitment in a short amount of time, especially when that means such a significant chunk of my bills get paid on time. However, this means that I need a certain flexibility of schedule. Ideally, I should be turning out assignments immediately after I get them, so that they’re not hanging over me after I finish a big project. But the world doesn’t guarantee that my schedule works out so nicely
Therefore, the freelance writer’s mantra: prioritize.
I generally expect to spend Monday mornings running errands, grocery shopping, etc. Not this week. My errands have all been shifted to Wednesday, which may mean that there isn’t actually food in the apartment for Tuesday’s dinner. Tough. I’ll figure out some form of nutrition, even if it isn’t exactly a typical dinner. The priority is finishing the project that will pay for the groceries.
